JOUVERT- New York -Labor Day in Brooklyn 2012 .
The West Indian American Day Parade & Carnival celebrates its 45th anniversary this year complete with massive thunderstorms this morning for J'Ouvert at 4 Am. Let's be clear you could not see thought the heavy down pour. It was vicious, the paint ran everywhere in the streets, but Playing Mas' went on in full force. This was Hot ! Now from my lens I can never soon forget the color nor passion of this event. The costumes with massive color.. Let me only mention the thousands upon thousands marchers wearing a sea vivid paint, paper, mud, powder, oil, chains, and torn rags, to construct custom made ensembles that were just as upbeat as the music pumping thought the streets.
Here you have it coming at you from all side people marching along, music, vendors selling street food, live performers up and down Eastern Parkway. The party starts on the Thursday before Labor Day when we arrived, and doesn't end till around 7 p.m. on the following Monday.The entire event has in fact drawn up to two million visitors.
